I finally ordered my new phone yesterday and received it this morning, so I thought I’d do a quick first impressions post. I went for the LG Optimus 3D in the end and after waiting for nearly three months after the supposed release date it’s here.
What’s in the box?
The red box slides open to expose the phone sitting on the top in all its glory, then underneath the little flap you will find a USB cable and mains adaptor, a set of sturdy looking headphones and the instruction manuals. I’m a little disappointed that you don’t get a case as I got one with my HTC Magic, but I’ll order one of the internet.
The Phone
The first thing you notice about the LG Optimus 3D is how big it is, it literally dwarfs my HTC Magic and is even bigger than the iPhone. The power button and headphone sockets are on the top, mini USB and HDMI connections are on the left hand side and volume and dedicated 3D button are on the right side. On the rear are the two stereoscopic cameras and on the front are a video call camera and four menu buttons.
Once you turn the phone on and type in a few date and time settings your ready to play. The screen is vibrant and really clear and the basic setup of the phone looks pretty good as well with the AccuWeather app, social plus and browser all ready to use.
What is the 3D like?
The 3D menu can be accessed using the button on the right hand side of the device giving you access to games, 3D camera, gallery and YouTube 3D. There are a few samples of 3D movies preinstalled on the phone that look great and the camera also looks good from the sample shots I’ve taken so far. The stereoscopic screen taken a little bit of getting used to in 3D mode but after a few seconds is looks great.
I’m happy with my phone so far, it’s really fast, has most of the apps you need are preinstalled like Facebook, Twitter, AccuWeather etc and the 3D part of it looks great.

My mobile phone contract is coming to an end soon and I have been waiting for the new LG Optimus 3D to come out so I can give it a try but it keeps being delayed. The phone, which is the first Smartphone to feature a glasses free 3D screen was due to come out in April but was put back to June 6th; I found out today that is has been delayed again till the 20th/21st June.
I hope the phone gets released on the new date as my contract runs out at the beginning of July and I really want to try it before I get a new contract. I have a HTC Magic at the moment and want to stick with the Android operating system as I’m used to it.
The 3D features of the phone might be a bit of a gimmick, but with a dual-core processor the LG Optimus 3D is going to be one of the fastest phones on the market.
There is also a 3D phone coming out from HTC, but doesn’t look like its going to be released till the end of July. Fingers crossed I can get my hands on the LG Optimus 3D and try out its 3D features.

My mobile phone contract is up next month and I’ve been looking at the latest mobile phones to see which one I fancy. I want to stick with an Android phone as I’ve had my HTC Magic for nearly 2 years now and am used to it.
There are lots of Android devices out at the moment but I’m particularly interested in the LG Optimus 3D which is apparently coming out early next month. As the name suggests, the LG Optimus 3D has a glasses-free 3D display and can take 3D pictures and videos with its dual 5 megapixel cameras.
It comes with 8GB of internal memory that can be extended by up to 32GB with a microSD card and boasts one of the newest dual-core processors; this means that it should be pretty future proof and be able to be upgraded when newer Android software becomes available.
Whether I would use the 3D part of the phone regularly remains to be seen, but with 3D TV’s coming down in price (I saw a full HD 3D TV in Currys for £699) and a phone contract that will probably last for 2 years, I’m sure I’ll make good use out of it.
Just hope the LG Optimus 3D isn’t delayed again or I’ll probably have to go for something else.

Pictures were leaked earlier this week, rumoured to be the new LG Optimus 3D handset; the world’s first 3D smartphone and LG have confirmed it. LG said that they will be releasing full details of the handset at this month’s Mobile World Congress, which starts on the 14th of February.
Very little is known about the LG Optimus 3D, but from the leaked pictures it looks like its running the Google Android operating system and there is growing speculation that there will be a dual-lens camera meaning that you could shoot your own 3D movies with it.
The ‘glasses-free’ 3D LCD display is rumoured to be powered by the Nvidia Tegra 3D processor, which has been especially designed for 3D phones. More will follow when the official press release has been released.

The iPhone is one of the most popular mobile phones in the world, but LG’s new Optimus 2X could be about to take back some of Apple’s dominance in the market. The LG Optimus 2X is the first mobile phone to feature a dual core processor and promises super fast applications and full multi tasking features.
It has a 4 inch touchscreen display, 8 megapixel rear camera, 1.3 megapixel front camera, HDMI out and Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity. It can record video at full HD (1080p), which can then be watched on a HDTV using the HDMI slot.
The LG Optimus 2X come with 8GB of internal memory and also boasts a microSD card slot so a further 32GB can be added if you need it. Running the latest version of Google Android, the LG Optimus 2X has access to an array of applications and can be customised to suit the user.
With a range of high-end specs and the fact that the Android operating system is catching up with Apple all the time, the LG Optimus 2X might just be the phone to knock the iPhone off its perch.

Sony has officially announced the Playstation Phone, but will it take off or has it missed the boat? Details are still quite sketchy, but the device is said to have a powerful 1Ghz processor, 512MB of RAM and 1GB of ROM, as well as boasting the Android 3 operating system. Screen size is rumoured to be between 3.7 and 4.1 inches and the device features a slide out gaming keyboard with the normal PSP Go button layout.
With many mobile phones being able to play decent looking 3D games has the Playstation Phone taken too long to come out? Especially as it looks very much like a PSP Go with a phone built in. Only time will tell with Sony Ericsson’s newest device and we could be seeing it as early as this year but no date has been confirmed yet.

If like me you’ve been envious of your friends with iPhone’s because you can’t play the fantastically popular Angry Birds game then rejoice, Angry Birds is now available on Android and the best thing is it’s free!
You can download it straight to your phone by going to m.getjar.com, selecting Quick Download Code at the bottom of the page and entering the code 43600, or download it from Get Jar’s website onto your computer then transfer it.
Angry Birds is a physics type game where you use a slingshot to fire birds at green pigs. Destroy all of the pigs and structures in the level to win, simple! There are over 150 levels and its quite addictive, so don’t plan on getting any work done in the near future.

Watch out if you live in Kent, are visiting there, or going on holiday from Dover because you could be in for a nasty shock by way of a French ‘phone bill! The French network Bouygues runs a signal much stronger than major UK rivals in the area and automatically switches Brits to its network when they turn on phones near Dover, which is the nearest channel port to France.
What all this means of course, is that both outgoing and incoming calls, texts and web downloads are charged at more expensive foreign roaming rates. A number of outraged residents and holiday makers have found themselves with some extra charges all of whom believed that Dover still remained in England! An O2 spokesman said: “Our network boys are working on it. We recommend people to call and we will look at every case.

I’m quite into my tech stuff and have been quite excited to see what Apple’s new iPhone 4 would feature. As pictures of the iPhone 4 had been leaked for over a month before it was official I already knew what it looked like, but looks aren’t everything especially in the Smartphone market.
I have been quite disappointed by the last couple of iPhone’s ( the 3G and 3GS) as they weren’t much of a step up from the original iPhone, but this newest device has a plethora of new features including a better screen that has a resolution of 640 x 960, a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and front mounted camera for video calling.
The battery has also been overhauled to make it last longer and the camera can record High Definition video up to 720p at 30fps.
My mate has pre-ordered his already and I’m looking forward to getting a nosey at it; who knows my wife’s contract is up soon, so could always get an iPhone 4 and swap if with my HTC Desire if she would let me
